Last year it was the Chippewas who came out of Detroit with the last laugh, but on Wednesday night the Spartans claimed victory in the sixth annual Clash at Comerica between MSU and CMU. MSU improved to 23-6 on the season while defeating the Chippewas by a final score of 7-3 after 14 innings of play.

MSU head baseball coach Jake Boss has made it very clear that he wants his team to be the best team in the state of Michigan. And after defeating the University of Michigan on Tuesday afternoon by a final score of 11-5, the Spartans are now 2-2 against in-state opponents. MSU can improve to 3-2 on Wednesday when it plays Central Michigan University at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit for the “Clash at Comerica."

After MSU lost the nightcap of Sunday’s doubleheader against Penn State in surprising fashion, the Spartans got back into action on Tuesday afternoon against the University of Michigan. The two rivals scheduled a last-minute non-conference matchup to make up for games that were rained out. The Spartans ended up victorious in their first meeting of the season, by a final score of 11-5.

During the weekend, the MSU baseball team traveled out to University Park, Pa. to take on Penn State in a three-game weekend series. The Spartans managed to win two of three against the Nittany Lions and improved to a 5-1 conference record and 21-6 overall.

There hasn’t been too much baseball being played in East Lansing lately, and that’s mainly because of the chaotic weather the last couple of weeks. Between snow flurries and downpours three of MSU’s last five games on the schedule have been postponed or cancelled due to the weather.

The tenth annual Crosstown Showdown exhibition game between the Lansing Lugnuts and MSU has been postponed due to rain. As of now, no makeup date has been announced and it is uncertain that the game will even be made up, according to an MSU press release. This is the first time in the annual event’s history that the game has been cancelled.

After a weekend of snowy weather in which two of their three games were cancelled against Oregon, the Spartans hosted the Eastern Michigan University in a Tuesday day game. The Spartans fell to a 19-5 overall record on the season by losing the Eagles by a final score of 4-2.

The MSU baseball team (19-4) defeated the Oregon Ducks (11-11), 3-2, Friday afternoon. The win came on a tenth-inning walk-off home run by Jordan Zimmerman on Friday afternoon. The game gave the Spartans a lead in the teams’ three-game weekend series in East Lansing.

On a gorgeous spring afternoon in East Lansing, the Spartans hosted Rutgers for the third and final game of a weekend series to kickoff the start of Big Ten play. After a doubleheader on Saturday, MSU completed the series sweep in come from behind fashion to defeat the Scarlet Knights by a final score of 6-5. The Spartans would improve to 18-3 on the season and 3-0 in the Big Ten.

The MSU baseball team opened up Big Ten play on Saturday afternoon against Rutgers, with a doubleheader after the game on Friday was postponed and moved to Saturday due to inclement field conditions. The Spartans improved to 17-3 on the season after sweeping against Rutgers by a final score of 5-2 in game one and 5-4 in game two.

The weather on opening day at McLane Baseball Stadium may have been cold, but the Spartan bats were hot once again when they took on Central Michigan on Wednesday in their home-opener. MSU flexed its muscles as it improved to 15-3 on the season as the team cruised past the Chippewas (4-17 overall record) by a final score of 4-1.

As of March 14, the MSU baseball team is ranked as the 25th best team in the nation by Baseball America’s top-25 poll. The Spartans are also ranked as No. 23 in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll , ahead of No. 24 Michigan.
