I am writing to you on behalf of The State News to express our sincere apologies for the content of our most recent newsletter.
After the Feb. 13 shooting on Michigan State University's campus, the university added multiple security updates around campus. However, for many freshmen and new students, the fear of shootings go beyond university intervention and point to a larger political issue of gun violence in America.
This weekend, Michigan State University football will host longtime rival University of Michigan in the annual, highly-anticipated fight for the Paul Bunyan Trophy. Despite online chatter about how toxic the rivalry has become, many MSU students remain relatively unconcerned.
After a long anticipated wait by her fans, singer-songwriter Olivia Rodrigo returned to stardom with the release of her sophomore album "Guts," which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 and showcased hits like "Vampire" and "bad idea right?"
As the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood pass the 125-day mark, Michigan State University film students are growing uncertain about their futures.

Our mission is to share the stories of our Spartan community. After a shooting that killed three of our classmates and severely injured five, we need to continue covering the healing.
In 2017, Netflix tweeted that "love is sharing a password." Now, sharing a password may come with an additional fee.
On June 3, a catastrophic train crash in the Balasore District of Odisha State, India left nearly 300 people dead and 900 injured. This marks another train derailment in 2023 making global headlines for being so lethal, including the Feb. 28 derailment in Tempi, Greece that killed 57 and the East Palestine, Ohio Norfolk Southern crash that released a steady stream of toxic chemicals into the atmosphere.
Friday, June 2 marked Gun Violence Awareness Day and the start of "Wear Orange Weekend," a time to honor victims and survivors of gun violence.
When we arrived at Michigan State University as 17 and 18-year-olds, the next four years were nothing more than a blank sheet of paper.
Our college experience has been anything but ordinary.
We came into this semester excited to lead The State News in our final semester of college.
Just 37 days.
