DeVos family pledges $5M for Secchia Center

April 27, 2010

Billionaire businessman Richard DeVos Sr. and his wife Helen pledged Tuesday a dollar-for-dollar donation of up to $5 million for the MSU College of Human Medicine’s Secchia Center in Grand Rapids.

The Secchia Center is a $90-million facility that will house the College of Human Medicine when it opens this fall.

DeVos, who is from Grand Rapids, co-founded Amway.

“We’re extremely grateful to the DeVos family for their generosity and their great vision,” College of Human Medicine Dean Marsha Rappeley said. “It affirms the value that the medical school brings and MSU brings to the health and the well-being of the greater-Grand Rapids community.”

The facility is partly funded through private donations, and MSU has raised about $39.1 million toward its $50 million goal.
