Washington State flag flies in E.L. for ESPN's College GameDay
Any hard-core College GameDay fan has noticed the Washington State flag that seems to be on TV every time the show is on the air.
Although College GameDay was in East Lansing last weekend for the Ohio State game, I caught up with one of the Cougar fans that wear WSU garb to the program and wave the flag.
Craig McDonald, a Midland, Mich. resident, was born in the state of Washington and told me a little of the backstory of the group.
“In 2002, we were third in the nation and (ESPN) wouldn’t come to Washington State, so we started going to them,” he said. “We went to a couple games in Texas and then it started consecutively and this is the 123rd time.”
He said there are alumni all around the country that Fed-Ex the crimson WSU flag to wherever GameDay broadcasts from.
McDonald said the alumni association runs the program now.
“It’s actually part of their fund rasing activity,” he said. “Give us money and wave the flag.”
