Conflicting reports about offer of largest contract in college basketball to Izzo
Eugene, Ore., news station KEZI is reporting that the University of Oregon is planning to offer MSU men’s basketball coach Tom Izzo the most expensive contract in college basketball in hopes of filling its coaching vacancy.
The ABC affiliate is citing sources close to the school’s athletics department, which has been bankrolled in recent years by Nike Chairman Phil Knight.
However, CBS affiliate KVAL is reporting that “not only is there no factual information to support this story, but the circumstances surrounding Izzo make it nearly impossible to see how the Michigan State coach would leave East Lansing.”
Any offers to Izzo cannot be made until the NCAA Tournament is complete.
