The Nia Clouden void has been filled.

Michigan State women’s basketball announced Baylor graduate student guard Kamaria McDaniel will be playing in the green and white next year for the Spartans. McDaniel only played in ten games due to a left knee injury last season and missed the entirety of the 2020-21 season due to the same injury.

Prior to that, the 5’10” guard played at Penn State, ranking second in scoring in the Big Ten with 19.8 points per game.

“We are thrilled to have Kamaria join the Spartan Family,” Michigan State Head Coach Suzy Merchant said. “Her accolades and experience speak for themselves; as she was one of the leading scorers in the nation. She has proven she can create her own shot at all three levels; 3-point line, mid-range and rim attack. Coupled with the fact that Kamaria is one of the best competitors, her work ethic and commitment to her craft is what truly separates her and will bring experience and leadership to our team.”

McDaniel is the third transfer to Michigan State, joining Gabby Elliot (Clemson) and Stephanie Visscher (Stephen F. Austin). All three project to play major roles on the team this season and it will be needed after Clouden departed for the WNBA and Alyza Winston transferring out.

The backcourt for the Spartans suddenly finds itself loaded with talent in returning sophomore guard DeeDee Hagemann, sophomore guard Matilda Ekh, senior guard Moira Joiner and the transfers arriving in East Lansing.

With forwards Tory Ozment and Julia Ayrault returning to the fold after their season ending injuries, the only area of concern comes at the center position with senior Taiyier Parks and sophomore Isaline Alexander being the only two with significant playing time last season.
