Michigan State baseball concluded their annual Green-White World Series on Tuesday with Green taking the title, winning two of three games.

“It’s always fun to play, it’s always fun to compete, regardless if it’s in our squad or against somebody else,” Head Coach Jake Boss said. “Our guys have done a nice job of really playing hard and it’s fun when you put something on it, put something on the line, and just to watch them go out and compete. That’s why they’re here. They’re here to compete for Michigan State, and I’m proud to take the field with these guys every day.”

In game one, senior infielder Bailey Peterson had two hits, including a home run, two RBI and scored two runs, leading the Green team to dominating 7-2 win.

In a nerve-racking game two, Green took the series with a 10-9 victory after a 10-inning game. Stand-outs on the Green side included sophomore infielder Trevor Hopman who had three hits, one of which was a three-run home run.

On the White side, senior outfielder Bryce Kelley and sophomore outfielder Zaid Walker lead the team with three hits each.

“It was good to see our young guys, the freshman especially, get out there and kind of get their feet wet in college baseball,” Boss said.

White avoided a three-game sweep by taking the final game 5-4. The win was lead by sophomore infielder Peter Ahn who had two hits, two RBI and two runs throughout the game.

The three-game exhibition tournament marks an end to the Spartans fall practice slate. The team now looks forward to Feb. 14, their opening day.

“I thought we had a really good fall. I think the theme was trying to do as much different from last year as possible,” Boss said. “The thing we’re most pleased about is the effort that our guys showed in the fall and the buy in, the willingness to change, the willingness to do things differently so that we don’t repeat the year that we had last year. Very excited. I think we’re heading in the right direction.”
