MSU graduate transfer Ben Carter suffered a knee injury over the weekend, according to MSU Athletic Communications. The injury has not yet been specified for the 6-foot-9 forward, but will require surgery.

Carter sustained the injury when he landed awkwardly after contesting a shot.

MSU head coach Tom Izzo told media on Friday Carter was already battling an injury, and said that another setback for the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

“I feel awful for Ben (Carter),” Izzo said. “He had worked extremely hard on his rehab and to suffer another knee injury on a fluke play is incredibly cruel.”

In his 2015-16 season with UNLV, Carter started seven games but played in 22 total, averaging 8.6 points and 6.0 rebounds a game. Carter sustained a season-ending knee injury on Jan. 20, 2016 against San Diego State University.

There has yet to be an exact timetable for Carter’s return.
