For more than a decade, the Izzone Campout has been a tradition for students who buy men's basketball season tickets.

While there are many students who have been to the campout in previous years, the first year Izzone members might not be sure what to expect.

The State News created a guide for students who are new to the campout.

Buy the membership.

In order to be eligible to have your points collected from previous seasons (which come from attending previous games and camp-outs) transfer over, students should have already bought their memberships. There is still time to buy it, but the points will not transfer over.

Bring a tent.

The Izzone Campout is an overnight event which takes place on Munn Field. Students should bring a tent to the campout in order to get the full experience of camping out.

Plan for the weather.

Fall is here and the weather is constantly changing, so students should bring layers and come prepared for the weather at night. Hand and foot warmers are a must as well. The forecast for Friday predicts rain, so be sure to pack rain gear.

“Definitely bundle up because you will enjoy your experience even more,” Ben Limb, supply chain management junior and Izzone director, said.

Bring snacks.

Some food will be provided to participants, but it tends to go fast. Students should still bring their own snacks to the campout so they are guaranteed to have something to eat.

Bring decorations.

This year at the campout, they are holding a contest for students to decorate their tents. The theme will have to do with favorite movies, so students who want to participate should bring items which go along with their favorite movies. The prize will be one guaranteed front row tickets to any one game of their choosing.

Go to the open practice.

The open practice will give students an idea of what the Izzone is like and it is highly encouraged for first year students go. The students will also get a tour of the Jack Breslin Student Events Center offices. The open practice will start at 3 p.m. on Friday.

“We try to watch their practice with the same enthusiasm as we would a game,” Limb said.

Meet new people.

The campout attracts more than a thousand students. It is a way for the student section to bond and engage in many different games and activities. This will essentially make the campout experience worthwhile.

“I would definitely recommend meeting as many people as you can and just try to be as social as possible,” accounting senior Kevin Lechner said.
