Softball still winless in Big Ten following weekend sweep by Nebraska

April 29, 2012

The MSU softball team saw more opportunities for its first conference win washed away this weekend as they dropped two games on the road to Nebraska. Game three Sunday was cancelled due to weather.

The Spartans (11-36 overall, 0-17 Big Ten) lost a 5-3 decision in game one against the Cornhuskers (31-18, 12-5) in their first ever matchup as conference rivals. MSU recorded eight hits in the contest, highlighted by a three-run home run from sophomore utility player Sarah Bowling.

Nebraska pitcher Tatum Edwards shutout the Spartans, 3-0, in game that was decided in the bottom of the fourth inning.

MSU returns to action at 5 p.m. Thursday at Secchia Stadium at Old College Field where it takes on Western Michigan.
