Car chase on Lake Lansing leads to arrest

December 2, 2011

A car chase on Lake Lansing Road, which started at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday evening, has led to the arrest of one man, East Lansing police said.

The man was stopped at about 9:30 p.m. for a seatbelt violation near the intersection of Abbot and Lake Lansing roads, said East Lansing police Sgt. James Campbell. Once the man was flagged to pull over, he sped off in an attempt to elude police.

The chase ended after the man crashed his car into someone’s front yard. The man then took off on foot, Campbell said. During the foot chase, police dispatched multiple units, as well as a helicopter, Campbell said.

The man was apprehended at bout 10:30 p.m.

Campbell said he is not sure why the man fled. Charges against him will be pressed with the prosecutor’s office either tomorrow or Sunday.
