Theater to host stage production

April 27, 2011

Award-winning “MEMPHIS” will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Goodrich Lansing Mall Cinemas, 921 Mall Drive West, in Lansing.

The production also will perform at the same time Saturday and Tuesday as well at 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
In the performance, which is inspired by actual events, the audience follows the forbidden love of a white disc jockey and a black singer in the underground dance circuit of Memphis, Tenn., in the 1950s. The comedic and dramatic performance showcases dancing and singing.

The production has won four 2010 Tony Awards and features a Tony Award winning book by Joe DiPietro. The original score was created by David Bryan, who is a founding member and keyboardist for Bon Jovi.

Stage direction is by Christopher Ashley, and the show’s choreography is by Sergio Trujillo. The performance stars Chad Kimball, Montego Glover, Derrick Baskin, J. Bernard Calloway, James Monroe Iglehart, Michael McGrath and Cass Morgan.

The national tour of the show will visit Wharton Center for eight performances as part of the 2011-12 MSU Federal Credit Union Broadway at Wharton Center season.
