Spartans clean up Big Ten awards

In addition to their Big Ten championship, members of the No. 11 MSU women’s basketball team picked up individual awards from the conference Monday.

Senior forward Kalisha Keane was named Player of the Year by the league’s coaches, the first Spartan to earn the honor. She also was on both All-Big Ten first teams.

Junior forward Lykendra Johnson was named Defensive Player of the Year by the coaches. Johnson was first team All-Big Ten by the media and second team by the coaches.

Head coach Suzy Merchant was a named Coach of the Year by the coaches and media.

Senior guard Brittney Thomas was named honorable mention All-Big Ten by the coaches and media.

In Merchant’s four seasons at MSU, 15 Spartans have earned All-Big Ten honors, the most in the conference.
