Spartans get 2 wins in Orlando

November 28, 2010

Thanksgiving weekend wasn’t about turkey for the No. 25 MSU women’s basketball team, which passed on the food and decided to feast on opponents instead.

The Spartans (5-1) traveled to Orlando, Fla., to participate in the 2010 UCF Thanksgiving Classic and came away with two victories.

The first came in a close battle Friday with Western Kentucky, whom the Spartans defeated 59-52.

Senior forward Kalisha Keane and senior guard Brittney Thomas led the way offensively with 14 points each.

Keane, refusing to let her team play in another close game, followed Friday’s performance by putting up 26 points in the team’s second win, 76-52, against Richmond.

In the Spartans’ six games, the senior co-captain has led her team in scoring in five of them. Keane also has reached double-digit points in all six games.

Overall, the team forced the Spiders to turn the ball over 22 times, which led to 26 points. The Spartans also outrebounded Richmond, 46-32.
