Seven MSU men’s soccer players were selected to All-Big Ten Teams or earned awards following the team’s 11-7-1 regular season.
Two seniors — defender Colin Givens and midfielder Spencer Thompson — were named to the All-Big Ten First Team. The selection is Thompson’s second consecutive, and Givens’ first — after an All-Big Ten Second Team selection last year.
Junior forward Domenic Barone, sophomore defender Kevin Cope and senior goalie Avery Steinlage were selected to the All-Big Ten Second Team. Barone is tied for the team lead with eight goals. Last year’s Big Ten Freshman of the Year and member of the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Cope made his way onto the second team. After being a first-team pick two years in a row, Steinlage was selected to the second team.
Freshman midfielder Josh Barens was named to the All-Freshman Team. Barens started 17 of the team’s 18 games and collected two assists.
Senior midfielder Jeff Ricondo was named MSU’s Sportsmanship Award honoree for displaying leadership and sportsmanship.
MSU lost to Michigan in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament and will await the NCAA Tournament selection.
