Women's hoops to play in Super Six Series

October 13, 2010

MSU and Minnesota will represent the Big Ten in the inaugural Super Six Series in 2010, the conference office announced Wednesday.

The Super Six Series involves two teams from each major conference — Big Ten, Atlantic Coast, Big East, Big 12, Southeastern and Pacific-10 — playing against each other in one home game and away game annually.

“The initiation of the Super Six Series is an outstanding opportunity for our coaches and student-athletes to compete against some of the best competitions in the country,” Big Ten Associate Commissioner Andrea Williams said in a statement. “With compelling matchups and top players, we anticipate this series will provide the participating teams with a unique and competitive preseason experience.”

The Spartans will play their first game in the series at the beginning of the season, traveling to Baylor to take on Brittney Griner and the Bears on Nov. 19. The Golden Gophers host the Pittsburgh Panthers in their first matchup on Nov. 17.

The last time the Bears and Spartans met was in 2005 for the NCAA Championship, where Baylor won 84-62.
