Spartans tabbed conference favorite at Media Day

The No. 2 MSU men’s basketball team was named the favorite to win the Big Ten by the media, the conference announced at Big Ten Basketball Media Day on Thursday.

The Spartans are coming off back-to-back seasons reaching the Final Four and return an experienced group this season.

Despite coming back from a ruptured Achilles’, senior guard Kalin Lucas was named Big Ten Preseason Player of the Year. Lucas was the only Spartan to be named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team.

Here is the Big Ten preseason poll and All-Big Ten team:

1. Michigan State
2. Ohio State
3. Purdue

All-Big Ten team

F JaJuan Johnson, Purdue
F Jon Leuer, Wisconsin
G Kalin Lucas, Michigan State
G Demetri McCamey, Illinois
G E’Twaun Moore, Purdue

On the women’s side, MSU was picked to finish third by the coaches and the media. The Spartans finished second in the Big Ten the past two years.

Senior forward Kalisha Keane also was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten team by the coaches.
