Heyboer, Freeman get Big Ten honors

November 11, 2009

MSU women’s soccer sophomore forward Laura Heyboer and junior forward Cara Freeman each were named First-Team All-Big Ten on Wednesday.

Heyboer earned First Team honors for the second straight year, scoring eight goals and totaling five assists in 15 games this season. The 2008 Big Ten Offensive Player and Freshman of the year missed the last three games of the season after breaking her left leg while scoring the game-winning goal against Minnesota on Oct. 25.

After being named Second-Team All-Big Ten as a sophomore, Freeman garnered First-Team honors this year as a midfielder. She scored three goals and totaled five assists in 18 games.

Senior forward Lauren Hill, who led the Spartans with 10 goals, was named to the Second-Team for the second straight year. She started 18 of the team’s 19 games and had four-game winning kicks for the Spartans.

Senior defender Megan Brown was MSU’s honoree for the Big Ten’s Sportsmanship Award.
