E.L. department to hold open house May 6

The East Lansing Department of Code Enforcement & Neighborhood Conservation will hold an open house May 6 in room 217 of East Lansing City Hall, 410 Abbot Road, to celebrate the 2009 Building Safety Week.

Members of the department will be on hand to answer community members’ questions and concerns regarding their summer renovation projects. In addition, the open house is meant to inform the community about building safety and different fire codes to protect property and lives in East Lansing.

Information regarding East Lansing code’s requirements for basement finishing, building alterations, detached garage guidelines, roofing requirements and smoke alarm requirements will be available.

Building Safety Week is an annual event sponsored by the International Code Council. This is the 30th year the event will be held.

The open house runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at City Hall. Refreshments will be provided throughout the length of the event.
