MSU guard Thomas to miss rest of season after injuring knee

MSU sophomore guard Brittney Thomas will miss the rest of the season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee on Friday, head coach Suzy Merchant said.

“We are obviously disappointed to lose Brittney for the rest of the season,” Merchant said in a statement. “She has been integral to the success of our team this season and will be missed on the court. We now need some different people to step up and fill her role for the remainder of the season.”

Thomas was a stalwart on the Spartans defense, averaging 1.6 steals per game in 32.5 minutes, as well as six points and 4.1 rebounds.

Thomas will have her knee repaired in 2-3 weeks. Recovery time typically takes 3-6 months.
