Former grad assistant to lead Broncos

January 12, 2009

The NFL’s Denver Broncos announced Monday that former MSU graduate assistant Josh McDaniels would be the team’s next head coach.

McDaniels, who has worked the last three years as offensive coordinator for the New England Patriots, was a graduate assistant from 1999-2000 under then-head coaches Nick Saban and Bobby Williams.

In recent years, McDaniels has led a Patriots offense that saw NFL MVP Tom Brady throw for 50 touchdowns and wide receiver Randy Moss catch 23 touchdowns in 2007.

McDaniels, 32, is now the youngest coach in the NFL and the third-youngest coach in the history of the league.
