MSU softball aims for 1st Big Ten win

The MSU softball team hosts Ohio State at 4 p.m. today in hopes of earning its first conference win. MSU again faces the Buckeyes at 1 p.m. Saturday and then hosts Penn State at noon Sunday for a doubleheader.

On Tuesday, the Spartans (19-17 overall, 0-2 Big Ten) split a non-conference doubleheader at Detroit. They lost the first game, 5-4, but came back to win the second game, 13-8.

Junior third base Caitlin Mahoney had six RBIs in the win, matching the second-highest single-game total in MSU history.

On Sunday, No. 8 Northwestern swept the Spartans in a doubleheader. MSU lost the first game, 11-3. Junior Jessica LeFevre had two hits.

The second game resulted in an 8-3 loss. Senior first base Dayna Feenstra had a team-best two RBIs.
