Four seniors bid farewell

March 3, 2006

While Maurice Ager and Paul Davis have the spotlight seniors, these four Spartans have contributed to the program as well. Read about their accomplishments and see what MSU head coach Tom Izzo has to say about each of them.

Jason Aerts

6-foot-6

Pentwater, Mich.

Aerts came to MSU before the 2004-05 season from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. He played in eight games last season and has appeared in eight more this season. He holds the MHSAA single-season record for blocked shots (176). He set that record in 2001.

Izzo on Aerts: He's an incredibly gifted student. He has still sacrificed his time away with, I guess, little in reward and you always have special feelings for people who do that.

Anthony Hamo

6-foot-2

Flint, Mich.

Hamo was awarded a scholarship by Izzo in the offseason for his hard work on the scout team. He has appeared in 26 career games. He averaged 25 points, 8.8 rebounds and seven assists a game as a high school senior.

Izzo on Hamo: If you've been here four years like he has, it means you're enjoying yourself. Other than suiting up for the games, it's not like you get a lot out of it … he doesn't get to play the minutes or sometimes even play as much in practice. To stick that out four years in that situation, I think speaks volumes for the guy.

Delco Rowley

6-foot-8

Indianapolis, Ind.

Rowley has appeared in 67 career games, starting six. He has averaged 6.9 minutes, 1.1 points and 1.1 rebounds per game this season. While he has one year of eligibility left, Rowley is on track to graduate in May and may not be back next season.

Izzo on Rowley: If I were a betting man, it might be 55-45 that he might go, but he has played better in the last month and I think that too will play a hand in it. I don't think a decision will be made until after the season.

Matt Trannon

6-foot-6

Flint, Mich.

While set to play one more season on the gridiron, this is Trannon's last season on the hardwood. Trannon has been the heart and soul of the team. He recorded career highs in both points (14) and rebounds (11) in the Spartans double overtime win at Ohio State on Jan. 15. He has been out since Feb. 18 with a broken jaw.

Izzo on Trannon: He's done something that very few have done. Some guys have done it for two years, three years, but four years of this around the clock — someday, I think we'll all appreciate that he is a special athlete. It's hard to do that under that kind of pressure, especially playing as much as he has for at least two of the years.
