Game parties in Detroit still accessible

January 27, 2006

The biggest sports game of the year is just down I-96, and you want to party with the big name celebs in Detroit. The problem is, it's near impossible to get on a guest list for private parties, but tickets are still available for some public parties — if you act now. Here's a list of parties you can still get into — most have hefty price tags, but you might have a chance to rub elbows with Tommy Lee or Eminem. But unless your name is Paris Hilton, there are some parties you'll never get into — no matter how much money you're willing to pay.

"Shady Super Bowl Party," hosted by Eminem

State Theatre, 2115 Woodward Ave.

Tickets go on sale today at 10 a.m. for Shady Records' State Theatre concert Feb. 4. Artists Stat Quo, Bobby Clearwater and Obie Trice will perform, and it is unsure whether or not Eminem will perform, but it is expected he will make an appearance at the party. Tickets are $30-$100 and can be purchased at www.ticketmaster.com.

The Vault, 151 W. Fort St.

Formerly Manufacturers National Bank, the Vault has been refurbished by REM Marketing Group for four parties during the busy weekend. With ticket prices starting at $150 for Feb. 2's Pure Rush party, the fees tip the scale with prices as high as $1,250 for Penthouse and Rockstar Energy Drink's risqué "Party Like a Rockstar" with porn star Jamie Lynn. On Feb. 3 the Hawaiian Tropic girls host the Vault party with $300 tickets ($500 VIP) and on the afternoon of the big day, a 12-hour Taste of Detroit Tailgate Party begins. The admission cost is $250. For more information, see www.thevaultdetroit.com.

Harry's Bar & Grill, 2482 Clifford St.

Free and open to the public, this party is on Sunday right before the game from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The party is sponsored by WKRK (97.1-FM), www.yourtailgateparty.com and Chaser-Freedom from Hangover, the hangover pill, which will be given out to any interested partygoers. After touring and tasting different tailgate foods across the United States, www.yourtailgateparty.com will choose the best recipe and announce the winner at the party. T-shirts and other prizes will be given away. For more information, visit www.yourtailgateparty.com.

Bleu Room Experience, 1540 Woodward Ave.

Tommy Lee will throw his Super Bowl XL Party on Feb. 4 at Bleu Room Experience, hosted by Kyle and Cassandra from "America's Next Top Model." A Tommy Lee event ticket giveaway will be held today from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. Tickets are available for $75 on www.groovetickets.com, or for more information, visit www.bleudetroit.com.

PRIVATE PARTIES YOU PROBABLY WISH YOU COULD GET INTO

Playboy's Eight Mile High Club party

Coleman A. Young International Airport, 11201 Conner St.

Held at the Coleman A. Young International Airport, many celebrities are expected to turn out for this airport-themed party on Feb. 4. "Jet bunnies" — playboy bunnies dressed in stewardess costumes — will prance around the party. Jay Nesheim, vice president of public relations for Playboy Enterprises, advised not to buy online tickets because they are typically counterfeit. "There are always people who are disappointed because they spent $1,000 online for counterfeit tickets," Nesheim said. Last year, celebrity guests included Ashton Kutcher, Chris Rock, Nick Lachey and Fergie from Black Eyed Peas.

Maxim magazine's Rock City Opera party

Max M. Fisher Music Center, 3711 Woodward Ave.

Maxim will transform the Detroit Symphony Orchestra's home into a Rock City Opera party Feb 4. Lewis Kay, spokesman for Maxim, said the bar will be made out of a giant organ, with Absolut bottles for pipes. Reebok roller-skating girls will be skating around the party, a gospel choir will sing and guests can play casino games all night and win prizes from the "rock store." "A lot of special events consist of throwing money at a celebrity to perform and having free booze, but this party is much cooler than that," Kay said. Sorry, but this party is also invitation-only, and there are no tickets — just a guest list.
