Put some Wild Turkey on the table this year

November 16, 2005

All turkeys don't have wings and go gobbling all over the place. Sometimes "turkey" can pack a punch. Al Bundy's bourbon of choice can be used in a variety of Thanksgiving drinks and recipes. The holiday wouldn't be complete with some "Wild Turkey" on the table, right?

FYI: The following recipes contain alcohol, so you must be 21 to purchase or consume the ingredients.

Bourbon and coke

Try one shot of Wild Turkey with 12 ounces of your coke of choice for a different take on the standard rum and coke.

Two wise men and a bird

In small glass, mix half a shot of Jim Beam, half a shot of Jack Daniels and half a shot of Wild Turkey for a strong, hair-on-your-chest downer.

The remedy

In a small glass, mix a teaspoon of honey, a capfull of lemon juice and a shot of Wild Turkey. Heat in a microwave for 15 seconds. It's like that hot toddy your grandmother used to make as a cold remedy — but the honey and lemon takes some of the edge off.

Yellow cake with bourbon glaze

Pick up a box of Duncan Hines or Betty Crocker standard yellow cake mix. Prepare cake as you normally would. To give it a kick, heat half a stick of butter, half a cup of brown sugar, a quarter cup of Wild Turkey and two ounces of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir for three minutes until it liquifies. Use a toothpick to poke holes into the cake. Use a spoon to spead the glaze over the cake — some of the glaze will drizzle into the holes.

Spread the glaze evenly as you would frosting. Let cool, and serve alongside your other Thanksgiving dishes.
