Author J.L. King to visit campus tonight

October 25, 2005

J.L. King, the author of "On the Down Low: A Journey into the Lives of 'Straight' Black Men who Sleep with Men" will be paying a visit to campus tonight.

"On the Down Low" digs into the underground phenomenon of men who cheat on their significant others with other men, but do not consider themselves to be gay or bisexual. Many consider the phenomenon to be a cause of the rise of sexually transmitted diseases among women.

The book contains interviews with several "DL" men, as well as a guide for women who might suspect their significant other is "living on the DL."

King himself was a man "on the DL"; much of the book is based on his own experiences. His ex-wife, Brenda Stone Browder, authored a book, "On the Up and Up: A Survival Guide for Women living with Men on the Down Low," while King has written a sequel, "Coming up from the Down Low: The Journey to Acceptance, Healing and Honest Love."

King has toured nationwide and has appeared on "The Oprah Winfrey Show."

King will speak at 7:30 p.m. in the Wilson Hall Auditorium. The event is sponsored by Case Hall Black Caucus and admission is free.
