Spartans set to play Georgia Tech during Big Ten/ACC Challenge

June 30, 2005

The 2005 Big Ten/ACC Challenge schedule has been announced, and the MSU basketball team will host Georgia Tech at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 on ESPN.

It will be the first time in the history of the challenge that all 11 Big Ten teams will participate, leaving out one Atlantic Coast Conference team - Boston College.

The last time MSU and Georgia Tech met it was in the 1990 NCAA Tournament, when the Yellow Jackets upset the Spartans 81-80 in overtime. The other two times the teams met were in 1947 and 1949, each team winning once.

The Spartans are 3-2 in the challenge, beating North Carolina in 1999 and 2000 and defeating Virginia in 2002. The 2001 game with the Cavaliers was canceled due to condensation buildup under the floor at the Richmond Coliseum, where the two teams were playing.

MSU has lost each of the last two seasons in the challenge to Duke.
