Brown to try out for national b-ball team

MSU men's basketball junior guard Shannon Brown accepted an invitation to attend the Under 21 National Team Trials in Dallas on July 21-23.

The trials are used to choose the members of the 12-player team that will defend the gold medal for the United States in the 2005 FIBA U21 World Championship in Mar de Plata, Argentina in August.

During his sophomore season, Brown averaged 10.9 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists. His free throw percentage was .848, second best in the Big Ten. Brown also received an honorable mention from the coaches. In five NCAA tournament games, Brown averaged 13.8 points, capping it off with being named Most Outstanding Player.

While in high school, Brown participated in the 2002 USA Basketball Men's Youth Development Festival in Colorado Springs and was a finalist for the World Championship for Young Men Qualifying Team in 2004.

Giles of Kansas, Justin Gray of Wake Forest, Taj Gray of Oklahoma, Malik Hairston of Oregon, Adam Morrison of Gonzaga, Allan Ray of Villanova, J.J. Redick of Duke, Terrence Roberts of Syracuse, Rajon Rondo of Kentucky, Darius Washington Jr. of Memphis, Marcus Williams of Connecticut and Curtis Withers of Charlotte.
