WEB-ONLY: A timeline of Saturday's action

April 4, 2005

11 p.m.: Game ends, people begin to gather on campus and in East Lansing, specifically in Cedar Village and Albert Avenue by Buffalo Wild Wings, 360 Albert Ave.

11 p.m.: Police begin announcing over loudspeakers in Cedar Village that the gathering was an "unlawful assembly" and would soon begin making arrests.

11:15 p.m.: Police begin releasing tear gas.

11:27 p.m.: One of the two helicopters circling the area shines lights down on the gathering in Cedar Village. Police begin spraying chemical spray in the faces of those who won't move.

11:34 p.m.: Albert Avenue is packed with people between the Mariott at University Place, 300 M.A.C. Ave., and Buffalo Wild Wings.

11:38 p.m.: Tear gas is released on Grand River Avenue and Gunson Street.

11:40 p.m.: Police release tear gas at Albert Avenue, near Buffalo Wild Wings, after warning revelers to move minutes earlier.

11:46 p.m.: Tear gas is released in front of Georgio's, 1010 E. Grand River Ave., for the third time.

12:11 a.m. -12:51 a.m.: Several fires occur, including a couch fire on Linden Street, a couch fire on Collingwood Drive, a bonfire in Cedar Village and a Dumpster fire near Jimmy John's, 643 E. Grand River Ave.

12:40 a.m.: East Lansing police Lt. Kevin Daley says during a press conference that things are slowing down.

1 a.m.: About 200-300 people gather at the corner of Albert and M.A.C. avenues, as several people begin rocking and jumping on cars with others inside of it.

1:04 a.m.: Tear gas is released in front of El Azteco, 225 Ann St.

1:10 a.m.: A fire is reported near Georgio's.

About 2 a.m.: The city is quieter and most of the large mobs have dispersed.
