The MSU softball team took the Florida International Tournament title after defeating Florida International, 3-2, on Sunday. MSU swept the field at the tournament, winning five straight games. MSU now is 8-3 for the season.
Second baseman Janette Hurtado drove in Amy Szawara to win the final game with a single in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Designated player freshman Dayna Feenstra extended her hitting streak to 11 games by posting a hit in each of MSU's 11 games this season. Her streak now is the ninth longest in MSU history.
Spartans pitcher Jessica Beech moved her record to 6-2 on the season, working a complete eight-inning game and allowing two runs on eight hits.
MSU next travels to the Worth Invitational at Cal State Fullerton on Friday, beginning at 2 p.m. against the University of California-Santa Barbara.
