One day after the Spartan volleyball team got group recognition in the form of a NCAA Tournament bid, four Spartan players were highlighted for their individual achievements.

Senior outside hitter Erin Hartley made her first appearance on the All-Big Ten first team as a unanimous selection. Hartley also received Co-Big Ten Player of the Week honors for the third time this season after posting consecutive 20- and 21-kill matches against Illinois and Indiana last weekend, respectively.

For Hartley, the award represents the type of consistency she has looked for over her career.

“I have been on the preseason Big-Ten team the last two years and didn’t get the recognition at the end of the year,” she said. “This year I am really happy that I could follow through with it and play up to everyone’s expectations.”

Junior middle blocker Angela Morley and sophomore setter Nikki Colson received honorable mention honors for the All-Big Ten team. Freshman outside hitter Kim Schram earned a spot on the Big-Ten All-Freshman team.

Morley said the award represents all the team’s hard work throughout the season.

“It was nice to see a benefit from all of the hard work all the middles put in,” she said. “I didn’t expect it ever, but I just played every point as hard as I could. And it’s really nice to see such a great accomplishment come out of that.”
