New faces on RHA board reach out to U

October 15, 2001

MSU’s Residence Halls Association has recently added two new officers to its executive board.

At its general assembly meeting Wednesday, Amy Sa’id was elected external vice president and Renisha George was elected community service chairperson.

An external vice president’s job is to work with other residence hall organizations outside RHA, such as hall governments and caucuses. The community service position was introduced at the beginning of the semester and will involve coordinating community service events for the organizations RHA represents.

“I’m very confident about my new role in RHA,” Sa’id said. “I feel I know what hall governments need and want to improve on, and hopefully I can help them out.”

Sa’id’s past experiences in RHA are being an Armstrong Hall representative and a Michigan organizations communications coordinator. She also worked with budget and policy committees through RHA.

Sa’id said some of her goals for RHA are to get a voting seat for lesbian-bi-gay-transgendered hall caucuses and to continue to educate residence hall government presidents about RHA resources by constantly meeting and discussing issues with them. She said she also looks forward to working with other caucuses on campus.

“I feel good in my new position and I look forward to bringing different viewpoints on issues to the e-board,” she said.

George said she wanted the new position because she felt she needed to get involved in campus activities and fund-raisers and this was the best outlet. Her goals for her new position include organizing food and toy drives for Thanksgiving and tragedy relief events.

“I’m very excited about my position and I look forward to contributing to the MSU community,” George said.

George also plans on working with nonprofit community service organizations such as United Way of America.

“They’re both energetic and excited individuals and hopefully they can bring a lot of that energy to RHA,” said Josh Minor, internal vice president.
