The Cold War to be featured on ESPN

October 17, 2001

The Spartan hockey team will receive even more national exposure this week, stemming from its record-setting outdoor hockey game on Oct. 6 in Spartan Stadium.

“The Cold War” will be featured on the cable TV series “NHL Cool Shots” at 1:30 p.m. today on ESPN, at 3 a.m. Saturday on ESPN2 and at noon Saturday on CBC.

The show’s host, Dan Moriarity, and crew filmed the preparation and build-up to the game for two days and had access to MSU head coach Ron Mason’s pregame speech. Interviews with Mason and Hobey Baker Award-winning junior goaltender Ryan Miller will also be part of the show.

Top-ranked MSU (2-0-1 overall, 2-0-1 CCHA) tied No. 5 Michigan (1-1-1, 0-0-1) 3-3 in the season-opening contest, which set the world record for hockey game attendance at 74,554.
