Speech teaches athletes how food affects ability

March 14, 2001

Students looking for ways to increase their athletic ability could benefit from a speech tonight.

Kristine Clark, director of sports nutrition at the Center for Sports Medicine at Pennsylvania State University, will talk to students at 8 p.m. on how nutrition affects sports performance.

The event is sponsored by the Kinesiology, Food Science and Human Nutrition and Intercollegiate Athletics departments.

Dietetics senior Anne Yoder, a coordinator of the event, said even if audience members are not university athletes, they can still learn from Clark.

“I think this is an incredible opportunity for anyone in sports to learn how to fuel their bodies for their best performance,” she said.

Clark is also a nutritionist for the U.S. women’s field hockey team and the U.S. Soccer Federation.

Kelli Battani, another organizer of the event, said she expects a high number of athletic and student trainers to be at the speech, as well as faculty and students in the Department of Kinesiology.

“Everyone’s really excited about it,” the dietetics and nutritional sciences senior said. “She’s well-known among all the professors in the department.”

The event is free, open to the public, and will be held today in Room 1345 of the Engineering Building.
