Photo shouldnt be on front page

Upon reading the front page article from the March 28 paper (“E.L. police, ‘U’ recall riot; look ahead to peaceful celebration”), I felt pretty good about what it had to say, but I wish to express my concern for the choice of photography.

I feel the chosen front page photo is in poor taste. It reminds us of our sore occasions and incites uneasiness and fear. This can lead to disruptiveness. I wish a more positive photograph had been chosen. Perhaps a photo of the peaceful celebration of last year would have been more appropriate.

I have found all things great came from reinforcing one’s positive achievements and providing constant nurturing. Most people are acutely aware of their wrongful actions and weaknesses. To point these out reminds us of the sore occasion and is embarrassing.

By analogy, one could consider the difference between being scolded as a child and being rewarded for merit. Would you respond better if your parents constantly scolded you for your mistakes, or if your parents provided constant nurturing and reinforcement of your commendable achievements?

Everybody has their inferior characteristics, and we are all certainly aware of this one. But it would be better for us all to choose an outward visage that represents the positive aspects and looks with aspirations to the future, rather than reminds us of the ill past and emphasizes the negative.
