In the article on the Horowitz advertisement controversy in Fridays paper (Advertisement incites free speech discussion, SN 3/23;), its possible to get the impression The Daily Cardinal ran an ad from several student groups for the purpose of attacking The Badger Herald.
The Cardinal staff had nothing to do with developing the content of the ad. In describing it, I was attempting to explain something that has been missed in much of the news coverage of this issue: That on our campus, student groups were not just upset with The Herald for running one particular ad, and that should be understood when looking at the ad that ran in The Cardinal.
The editorial staff of The Cardinal didnt make the decision to publish the student groups ad attacking The Herald, and in fact would have preferred the language in the ad had been toned down.
For the editorial staffs opinion, please see Fridays opinion page at www.dailycardinal.com.
