Salted sidewalks too little, too late

I also am appalled by the conditions of the sidewalks (“Icy walkways should be salted,” SN 1/30). I have to go to work at 7 a.m. before classes and the sidewalk conditions are horrible. I figured they would be better when I returned for a 9 a.m. class. My bike slipped out from under me three times on my way to classes.

The sidewalks were cleaned by about noon, not because MSU employees took care of the problem, but because it warmed up and students trekked all over the ice and melted it.

Employees should consider waking up a little earlier to salt the sidewalks. It is dangerous and irresponsible. I agree with the previous letter and think MSU employees should consider the conditions for students. Surrounding schools were closed and yet we walked on sheets of ice to our classes. This is ridiculous. Any other establishment would be sure its walkways are salted to keep it from impending lawsuits. This should be no exception.

The university stresses that this is a community - please take care of community members and the areas we travel.
