Fill subject lines with song lyrics

Like Kevin Hardy, I have struggled with the e-mail subject-line issue (“Please Read: Don’t include subjects with e-mails,” SN 12/1). For a while I, too, quit using subject lines altogether, but I felt guilty for copping out and filling my friends’ boxes with boring “none”s.

After going through a subsequent phase of artistic symbol subjects (&*&*& or ~###~) which got old quickly, I thought of an easy solution: song lyrics. I just use a random, cryptic line from whatever song is going through my head that day.

This takes practically no thought effort (unless you get really obsessive about it) and stimulates speculation from your friends over where the crazy subject line came from that day. And if you are the average Napster-crazed American college student, you will never ever run out of new subject lines.
