Other papers can cover boy bands

I would like to voice my displeasure about Dallas Smoke’s letter (“Paper reviews unpopular music,” SN 11/28). My first question is, do you really need a review of the new Backstreet Boys album? Are you expecting some drastic change, as if they are going to start playing instruments or writing their own lyrics? I think not. And do you really need The State News to review it when you will hear all about it on MTV and in your J-14 magazine?

I would like to commend The State News for not just accepting the crap that is spoon-fed to everyone by Carson Daly. When The State News reviews lesser-known artists it can introduce people to new music they had not heard about before. I’ve been wrong before, but I think the best music is not all songs about teenage girls, written by 43-year-old men, and performed by “men” in their 20s.

There are artists who actually write music because they enjoy it and live it, not just because it’s what the record companies want. I’d like to thank The State News for targeting MSU students instead of sheep.
