U-M columnists view was ignorant

When I first finished reading Erin McQuinn’ s column in the Michigan Daily, “A Weekend in East Lansing makes me appreciate A2,” my initial feelings were those of contempt and animosity. These, however, soon gave way to another emotion - pity. You see, the glaring irony of her essay is that she is no better than those she criticized. Is a “Prada bag” any better than a pair of “AE boots?” Are “booty pants” any more sophisticated than a “wife beater?” My point is this, no matter which one of these items you consider superior, the fact remains that when it’ s all said and done, you are still trying to fit an image rather than develop yourself as a human being. Whether it’s Calvin Klein’s image or that of the “softer side of Sears” becomes a moot point.

I sincerely hope that the backlash of criticism she is bound to receive in return for her ill-advised “exposé” makes her realize what a spoiled, petty, ignorant, shallow and mindless automaton she has become. If McQuinn is the type of person that the University of Michigan produces, than I am confident in my choice to come here.
