I am somewhat confused by the logic used by the editorial board in making its recent endorsement in the 70th District state House race. The editorial board talked at length about the need for our next representative to “close the funding gap.” I am sure many of us have read about this issue. The fact that we are funded at a lower level and forced to make do with less than the University of Michigan and Wayne State University is a slap in the face to all Spartans.

What confuses me is why the editorial board also would mention the need for a Democrat to represent us in Lansing. MSU has been underfunded for decades. During that period of time, MSU has been represented by who, the Democrats. I do not consider myself a member of any political party, but it certainly seems in this case that we would be better off giving Republican Bill Hollister a chance to represent us, as opposed to yet another Democrat. Clearly the Democrats, in this important instance, have not delivered for MSU.
