Prices drop to clear out E. L. store

October 19, 2000

Jacobson’s department store is holding a storewide liquidation sale where everything must go.

One week ago the new Jacobson’s opened in the Meridian Mall in Okemos, leaving behind a large surplus of office equipment and store fixtures at the old location, 333 E. Grand River Ave.

The sale began Oct. 15 at the Grand River store and will take place on all four floors of the building. It will last for approximately three weeks or until everything sells, with all items at bargain prices, said Dennis Dillon, president of Dillon & Associates Inc., the company administrating the sale.

“We’re urging people to come in at their earliest convenience for the best selection,” Dillon said. “It’s a huge garage sale with a bit of everything for people’s homes or for business use.”

Ja’Naea Douglas, a nutritional science junior, said that being a girl, she loves to shop.

“I think for most of the girl students on campus it might be a good idea to pick up something to wear or to decorate your dorm room with,” Douglas said. “Being poor college people, the sale certainly helps.”

Among the items for sale are office furniture, restaurant equipment, display cases, mirrors, tables, chairs, beauty salon equipment, Christmas decorations, chrome garment racks, chandeliers, mannequins, espresso machines, 500 sections of backroom shelving, a safe and other miscellaneous items for homes and businesses.

Tabitha Lemon, an international relations and advertising junior, said she only has about $20 to her name right now, so she’s sure she’ll stop by the sale.

“I’m from East Lansing, and I remember growing up and having (Jacobson’s) right there all the time, but we never bought anything because it’s so ridiculously priced,” Lemon said. “That sale’s a great deal, especially with Christmas coming up.”

The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., seven days a week, for the remainder of the sale.
