Column on Middle East was biased

I am writing to tell you that Rishi Kundi’s column about the Middle East is extremely biased against Palestinians (“Columnist enlightens ‘U’ about Middle East crisis,” SN 10/18) and to inform him why the Palestinians are so angry. First of all, what Kundi failed to mention is that starting in 1917 - when Britain promised to support Jews in the establishment of a Jewish homeland - Palestinians were forced from their homes, through wars and other actions, so that Jews could build new homes for themselves.

These Palestinians were reduced to refugees and third-class citizens on their own land in which they had lived for hundreds of years. The reason why Palestinians are rioting is not because Yasser Arafat sent his unarmed people to fight the Israeli soldiers. In truth, Arafat is a very old man who has struggled for years with the oppression of his people. The Palestinians attack because of frustrations and rage of years of broken promises by the Israelis. They attack because the so-called “peace talks” have failed to address their rights. The fact is that the Palestinians are suffering. Many are unemployed and live in very poor conditions. Lots still live in refugee camps where water is only available twice a week. The fact is that the lifestyle they are forced to live in is extremely harsh. These are just a few reasons why Palestinians are fighting. There are many more, but I do not have room to list them all. Kundi, I hope you take it upon yourself to look up some more facts instead of playing games.
