Assault, head injuries leave man hospitalized

October 31, 2000

A 19-year-old Lansing man is at Sparrow Hospital following an assault late Saturday night.

The unidentified man is suffering from multiple injuries, including head injuries, said Meridian Township police Lt. Russell Wolff.

Wolff wouldn’t comment on whether the man is an MSU student or give details about the man’s injuries or condition.

The assault occurred around 11 p.m. in the Tower Gardens neighborhood in Meridian Township after the victim voluntarily got into the assailant’s car in Lansing and was driven to the scene of the crime, police said.

Wolff said because the victim entered the car without struggling, it can be assumed the man knew the person or people responsible for the assault.

After the assault, the assailants left the man behind and fled the scene. The victim then made his way to a nearby residence where the homeowners called police for help, Wolff said.

The man was transported to Sparrow where he has remained since the incident.

“We do have some leads, and we’ll be following up on them but anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact the Meridian Township Police Department,” Wolff said.
