Story reports on immature groups

This is in response to a State News article (“MEXA: No apology for fraternity,” SN 9/28). Frankly, I am appalled that this kind of article would make the front page. The actions of both the fraternity and the MEXA group show nothing but immaturity.

The members of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity painted over the rock when they said they would not. Of course this is not right, but it is no crime nor is it any act of racism. I am sure they would have painted over anyone’s art that stood in their way. It’s no crime, just inconsiderate and childish.

In response to this, the members of MEXA performed an even more immature act when they called the fraternity “racists,” not even to its face. Like fifth-grade children they painted it on the rock. It is understandable that they would be upset with the fraternity, but instead of handling it like adults, they behaved like children, and still will not apologize for their inappropriate actions.

Two wrongs do not make a right. We are adults, and yet this elementary school behavior continues. My advice for MEXA: Get over it. The fraternity seems sorry, but MEXA is still holding a grudge. Don’t try to blame everything bad that happens on racism. I’m sure we are all much more mature than that.
