More details released about cyclist who hit bus

The female MSU student who struck a CATA bus on the first day of classes is a 30-year-old MSU employee and student.

The cyclist’s name has not been released.

It has been confirmed that the incident happened at 8:07 a.m. as the cyclist was riding east-bound on the sidewalk north of lot 56, next to the football practice field. The collision happened on Red Cedar Road and South Shaw Lane.

The victim was transported to Sparrow Hospital by East Lansing Fire Dept. She has been released from the hospital, MSU police Sgt. Florene McGlothian-Taylor said.

McGlothian-Taylor said the female student rode into the pedestrian crosswalk as the CATA bus was riding south on Red Cedar Road. The bus was already half way into the crosswalk when the 30-year-old female struck the bus.

“The thing I want to stress is no blame on the victim of course, but just awareness,” McGlothian-Taylor said.
