Two arrested for robbing students of pizza, cell phone outside residence hall

July 15, 2014

MSU police have located and arrested two Lansing men suspected of perpetrating an armed robbery outside a campus residence hall.

At 1 a.m. Tuesday, a 21-year-old male said he and his friend were walking through the Snyder-Phillips courtyard near Bogue Street when they were approached by Marton Shakel Benson, 21, and Justin Michail Wilson, 22. The suspects asked the victims for directions, then one of the men pointed what the victims thought was a gun inside the man’s hoodie pocket.

The suspects took a cell phone and pizza from the victims and fled north on foot. The victims were not injured and were able to call 911.

Police were able to use directions from the victims to locate and arrest the suspects.

Benson and Wilson have both been arraigned in East Lansing’s 54-B District Court before Judge Andrea Larkin. They are being held at the Ingham County Jail on $100,000 bonds.

Their pre-trial appearance is set for July 22 and preliminary examination is scheduled for July 25
