ASMSU without Social Science reps

April 14, 2014

ASMSU’s College of Social Science representative elections ended Monday at noon, but still left constituents empty-handed.

None of the candidates running to represent their college in the undergraduate student government’s general assembly received the necessary 25 votes to gain a seat.

Historically, the College of Social Science has remained of the most contested races alongside James Madison College, ASMSU President Kiran Samra said.

The elections were extended because of a technical difficulty with the online ballot, which in turn caused one of the candidates, Matt Bedard, to be listed twice.

Because of this error, ASMSU extended the college’s representatives elections for another week, allowing students to vote again for their representative.

ASMSU Director of Human Resources Sona Movsisyan said the three candidates with the highest votes, Jameil Hall, Ryan Smith and Evan Schrage, could be appointed to the open seats by a vote of the general assembly.

Schrage also is running in for Vice President for Internal Administration. Candidates were announced last Thursday.

If Schrage wins the seat, he would have to step down from his current position as social sciences representative.
