Casteel

?A trial date for MSU alumnus Raulie Casteel, the alleged I-96 shooter, has been scheduled for Jan. 13, 2014 in Livingston County.

?Casteel, who appeared in court for a hearing Friday afternoon, is being charged in connection with a series of 24 shootings, which occurred in late October on the I-96 corridor across four counties. He faces almost 60 charges, including attempted murder and terrorism.

?Casteel attended MSU from the fall of 1995 to the fall of 1997, graduating with a degree from the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources. A former roommate at MSU, Chris Burns, said last year that Casteel was thoughtful and insightful when he lived with him, and that his alleged involvement in the shootings was shocking.

?Casteel allegedly shot randomly at motorists, leaving one person injured.

?Although he was found competent to stand trial this past January, Casteel’s attorney later ordered a private psychological exam, in which Casteel was found to have delusional disorder.

?Casteel does not intend to pursue an insanity defense, and the evaluation was not disclosed in court.
