The Aug. 19 deadline for completing major and roads and sidewalks on MSU’s campus was met two days early on Friday, with other projects such as the opening of West Circle completed Saturday.

According to Liesa Williams-Swedberg, the construction superintendent for engineering and architectural services at MSU Infrastructure Planning and Facilities, a few other projects, such as the sidewalks in front of Morrill Hall demolition site are still in motion with a completion deadline scheduled for Aug. 31.

Summer construction costs totaled $36 million, with $17 million of the funds used for a steam project on major roads.

“A lot of these projects were requested by user groups or other projects as a result of administration request,” Williams-Swedberg said. “We wanted to get our roads back together before students go back on campus.”

The greenhouse demolition also has been completed, along with a utility project in the Brody neighborhood. Brody Drive is now completed with the exception of Butterfield Hall, which will continue to be under construction until further notice.

Williams-Swedberg said summer construction also was necessary for the safety of the community.

“The intersection of Kalamazoo and West Circle is now safer, along with the Bogue (Street) and Wilson Road cross.”
